Applied Computer Group NCA-UFMA

Applying computing for the development of society, developing innovative solutions.

The Applied Computer Group NCA-UFMA at the Federal University of Maranhao - Brasil established in 2008, performs research in Computer Science, with a mind for possible applications in industry or society.

The NCA-UFMA mission is based on:

  • Development of solutions to help industry and society partners to deal with their challenges and contributing to the development of our country.
  • Conduct foundational research and create technologies that empower the use of computer systems in the real world.
  • High-level human resources training (Undergradduated/MSc/DSc)
  • Stand out as a reference in the development of state-of-the-art computational solutions.

The core competence areas of NCA-UFMA are:

  • Computer Vision, with special attention to medical image processing
  • Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, that includes Machine Learning, Knowledge and Prediction; Business Intelligence and Scientific Data Science
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality
  • Software Engineering and Human-computer Interfaces
  • Natural Language Processing, with emphasis on image-text applications.

NCA has extensive experience in the development of research and development projects with the private sector, among the main partners we highlight the following brazilian companies: Alcoa Consortium, Eletronorte, Petrobras/ANP, CHESF/ ANEEL and Equatorial Energia (2016 – current).

The academic collaborations were mainly with:
